  • California P(1)

    (Photo version!)
    Saturday-no pictures to share--too tired!

    Sunday--
Went to the park with the gramps and parents

It's so beautiful in Cali!  They actually have color changes...in Florida, the places I've seen anyways pretty much go from greenery to death.  The yellow and red hues are not seen as frequently.

    Visited Gracie @ USC

    {Yum-o! Chocolate souffle...didn't quite turn out the way we expected.  P.S. Anyone have any idea what the term "ribbons" might refer to when making souffles?}

    Monday--
Dim Sum @ Rosemead (New Capital, across from Hawaii)

    {It was freezing...we cooked over a fire; there's a piece of 'gimpy corn' next to regular types of corn.}

  • Aw, you're making miss CA more now.

  • Haha I agree with Roadlesstaken...this is making me miss California a lot. And I really miss the dim sum! This post is making me hungry hehe.

  • @Roadlesstaken -  Haha, I'm sure you'll be back there soon enough :P ...I'm still stuck in their time zone. -_-

@cal_islander -  Where are you now, j/w? Yeah, I'll be missing dim sum too. In Florida I've only eaten microwaved dim sum, not fresh stuff brought around on carts. :[[[

  • I'm back on Saipan--tiny little island in the middle of nowhere (Pacific Ocean). I lived in California from 2003-2009, and I was able to go to some really good dim sum places in Oakland and LA. There's dim sum here, but the quality is far below that of the mainland :/.

  • @cal_islander -  Oooh, cool! Hence "islander"? Haha, wow, it really is kinda in the middle of the ocean O_O! Do you get to visit the water much then?? :D ? Aww, but you're also closer to Asia, so maybe you can get some real awesome & cheap food (:?

  • those chocolate souffles still look good!

  • Yes, it literally is in the middle of the Ocean hehe. Well, it's nice because any beach here is less than 5 minutes away, and the beaches are warm (not like freezing cold beaches there) and the sand is nice :) . I never truly missed the beach though until I moved away from here, but now that I'm back, it's not that missed anymore hehe, but I guess I shouldn't take it for granted again, right?

The sad thing is there are no good Asian restaurants here :( . I've had way better in California, despite the fact there is a huge Asian population on the island and we're so close to Asia. However, the nice thing is there is a lot of Asian products here (like yummy snacks you can only find in Asian stores like 99 Ranch in CA). Also, the fish is fresh everyday, and a lot cheaper than in the mainland.

Two things I really miss: dim sum and Target (yes, Target haha). No big chain stores here :(

  • @sonychak -  :) they were pretty good! And not really difficult but rather time consuming. :O!

  • @cal_islander -  :) Haha, sounds good...I guess to outsiders it might look like your sort of in a vacation-y land then? :D I live in Florida, but it seems like every place I have lived (home & college) both seem far from the good beaches (1.5 hrs or 30min-1hr, respectively). Wish I could hit up the beach more often :) .

Aww, boo! That sucks :. But most of the people there are also Asian though? How could there be few/no good Asian restaurants? D:? Asian people always love eating...(well, all people do, really). Ooooooh, Asian snacks definitely are a perk :) . They're so expensive here!! It's like mayb $3 for a small pack of Pocky! D:! Haha, I did go to a lot of 99 Ranches while in CA :D

Ahhh! I guess I could live without dim sum since I don't get it often anyways -_-, but no Target??? :( (((( (the lack of Target would probably save a me a ton of money though...spend too much there -_-)

  • Haha I do like your last point a lot--because there is no Target here, I have saved money cause there's nothing cool to spend it on here :( . I still miss the stuff at Target. The goods here aren't that good, and if they are, they're expensive :( If I had a lot of money right now I'd totally think about opening up a Target here.

I can live without dim sum, but it is nice to have once in a while :(

Saipan seems vacation-y, but it's super hot here. Even though I grew up in the heat, I still would rather live in a cold place like the Bay Area, maybe the northeast, Antarctica (haha jk). The avg. temp here is like 88 degrees or something. Low 80s or high 70s is a nice day haha compared to other days. Hows the weather like in Florida? :)

Pocky at $3? Crazy! I like 99 Ranch, do they have that in Florida or that only a west coast/CA thing? There are a lot of Asian people here--mainly Chinese, Japanese, Korean, some Southeast Asians like Filipinos, Thai people, etc. There are also a lot of other Pacific Islanders/some South Asians like Indians, Bangladeshis. I don't know why there is no good Asian restaurants here though...with the huge Asian population, you would think there'd be good food here :(

How long were you in California for and where'd you visit? =)

  • @phosphor_stars -

I think you're the only person I've ever heard of who spends MORE money because of target

  • those souffles look good. and the trip looks so excitingggg!!!! much better than being stuck at home most of the time :)

  • Anywhere with a job. And not that much snow. Lower costs of living. That pretty much slims my pickings. I rather live in an area with no snow. :)

  • @phantomFive -  Hahaha, my roommate does the same thing; I think in the past year or half year, I've only left Target spending less than $20 once, and it was about $19something. Everytime I go there I end up seeing either more stuff I think I can use, or something interesting. O_o Fail! Dad hates going there with me. But apparently my mom does the same thing as me. So he hates going there with her too.

  • I'm so jealous of those beautiful views!!! It's all dark here right now :( . Although a few days when I walked to work there was a beautiful sunrise...it sure looks pretty there though!!

  • @phosphor_stars -

I feel like I should go to Target just to see what I've been missing.

  • You wouldn't like the cold weather and snow all the time here. :P

  • @phantomFive -  Hehe, noooo save your wallet! Or perhaps you're much more pragmatic than me when spending -_-'

  • That looks like a lot of fun!! The Souffle looks pretty tasty-so good it couldn't contain itself :P

And [being a creeper *wrinkles nose*] I also spend too much at Target. Every time I go, I see those $1 things and buy tons of them--especially the Hello Kitty things. My little sister doesn't mind haha

  • @shortstuff3157 -  :D Har har ;) !

Lol, being a creeper? I'm always reading other comments on other people's posts, so maybe that always makes me a creeper >_>!
Haha, those dollar bins are pretty evil. The fact that they're usually cute or something --> ooh, I should buy more and stock up in case I need them or just because they seem relatively cheap. And then it burns holes in my pockets...mehhhhh!

& btw, YAY I'm excited to see you soon, though not excited about school!! Well, maybe halfway excited!

  • aww :) i love all the pictures.
