  • School misc.

School is swallowing me up!  But at last Wedn. is over, so the week only gets better from here :) .

I think I got my schedule set for next semester...I must say, I'm pretty excited if I can handle it all!

    Spring 2010
I'm just worried that it looks like I'll be in class a lot, which means less time to be working on my work!  I wanted to see if I could start research too, but it isn't looking like I have much time.  That might be a problem for when I want to work on thesis :.  I see too much blue!  :'(  On the other hand, I'll only have one lab, so it shouldn't be as bad as these past few semesters.  (No lab with Cece :( ...blame it on Cell Bio :( .)  Hmm.

Wow, I haven't been this excited in a while.
    No, actually that's a lie...  (:

A while ago I studied for physiology with this one kid; he keeps asking me if I want to study with him again, but he made me somewhat uncomfortable because he talked down to me without really any reason.  I thought I might've been being oversensitive, but I was talking to two of his lab partners (he's in my lab also), both of whom asked me if it was really awkward/if he was condescending to me also, since apparently he does that to them too.  So I don't think I was being oversensitive.  So now I feel a little annoyed every time he approaches me ><...

I don't mean to be mean, but I don't really like pompous people; it would be more excusable if he had accomplished great feats.  And I don't understand; I have been trying to be clear without being blunt about not wanting to study with him every time he asks.  I've been told that my facial expressions pretty much betray what I'm feeling, and I know I grimace every time he asks.  And I use a lot of hesitation, and generally look (and feel) uncomfortable.  Is,  "I don't know, I'm kinda busy..." plus many grimaces not good enough?  Or maybe I need to work on my grim face (ooh, good practice for Halloween? Just kidding).  He also keeps badgering me about my grades in the class.  Which drives me crazy.  Please, leave me alone!  I don't even like to talk about grades with my close friends.  Unless I am using it in a self deprecating way, then sometimes I just laugh (with tears on the inside, lol).

  • Why does your schedule look SOOO much?!

  • Whoa. At least we have organic lecture together :] Cell Bio ruins everything!! guhh, but I see you aren't taking the lab-that will free up time...for sea kayaking?! How did you find a fun class like that?

  • Your shedule is well loaded , Melinda . If you add the work at home It will be a hard semester but you will be an excellent searcher later .
    You will make it.

  • I don't know, most people have something about them that's annoying. Try to see past that, the good person he is underneath his pompousness, and roll your eyes when he gets overly cocky.

I usually try to let my face show what I am feeling. It is inconvenient sometimes, but usually it works better.

  • Wow...looks pretty killer...at first I was boggling at your Mondays, then I realized that the 3-hour block at night as only for exams...

Sea Kayaking?! What the heck?? Wow...that sounds really fun.  Do you actually get to kayak at the beach? That would be really cool.

If you get talked down to, you should just let them have a piece of your mind :P

I was thinking the same thing...it seems a little overwhelming, but I heard that some of them aren't hard classes AND are interesting (whew)? Hopefully the teachers don't switch it up between now and then. O_O!

Aww, oh no! I'm sure it'll be alright though...not to mention I'll be awake (hopefully not food-comatosed) at 3 as opposed to our 8:35 classes last year X_X! lol!

You should take sea kayaking if you can fit it in!!! :) ! :) ! It's pass/fail..! Just for kicks I went to see what PE classes they had (and for some reason that's where I found the First Aid class..?). Then I kept scrolling and saw all these dancing (:O!--> but I think I would get U's on those, so veto!) classes, and then I saw sea kayaking!

Hmm, that's true. :[, maybe I should try to be nicer; he is also a transfer student, so he's a n00b here & doesn't know all that many people.

But I've been irritated about him asking about my grades though. He's asked me about them 3 times, and I don't understand why he won't stop asking me. I've never given him an answer other than "Eh, not that good." And then he'll just be like "Oh, it wasn't the 100% you wanted?"..I hate when people do that to me; when I say it isn't good, it isn't good, whether it is my standards or someone else's I just would like for people to respect my desire to keep it private. And he apparently doesn't because he badgers me every time he sees me O_o. Or maybe I am not blunt enough? But last time I was blunt to someone about something, things didn't go well. :

lol, I think I would die if I had to be in class twice a day for orgo and a 2ish hour block at that. (:

I'm a little worried because most semesters my weeks get lighter after Wedn and I can relax, but if I have that schedule my whole week will be hectic...less winding down time ><! Meh. I needed a light semester too, to start with MCAT studying, but that might not happen. X_X

They don't really offer course descriptions with our classes, so I'm not sure; I guess I'll update you on that when I find out, a long time from now, lol. :)

I guess it didn't help that the day we were studying I was really tired x_x...(but I don't think I was incoherent? But I certainly was not witty; not that I'm particularly witty when I am awake?).

  • Yeah, if you are blunt you have to do it in a 'soft' way, like instead of telling him not to ask, just say, "why do you want to know?" (hey, be open, he might have a convincing reason to know!) Then if he doesn't have a good answer you can say, "Sorry, it's really none of your business" and if he keeps on asking don't say anything, just give him a look like he's an idiot or being annoying.

Or you can say something mildly humorous, like, "My grade was 20% higher than yours." and if he says, "that's not possible!" you can say, "yeah, that's just how good I am." Or if he keeps being annoying say, "I definitely scored higher than you in the nosiness department."

In life you kind of have to figure out a way to not be mean to people, but not let them do things you don't like, either.
