  • Things that make me smile (biology edition)

This is gonna be more of a photoblog than weblog...

I had an exam today in my Cell Biology class.  So I was going through my notes in these past few days, and discovered many many happy faces in them.  A lot of the times I put happy faces next to things that make me smile, on the inside or out...knowing me, I love to make faces & am very expressive, so the chances that I was smiling while drawing the happy faces are pretty high...

--Ribosomes remind me of how last time I had this professor, he called ribosome "big-ass structures".
--Binding site, not sure why I smiled??
--Spectrophotometers remind me of bio I lab which was epically fun (lol, Cecelia); also, I don't know why, but that's a word I always scramble...I always think "photospectrometer", not sure why O_o
    --Pyschoactive drugs--need I explain? ;)   J/k!

I think vesicles are pretty neat.  :)   And apparently I get really excited about electrons some times.

I also doodle--it keeps my hands and mind active (perhaps euphemism for keeping me awake, lol...jk!  My professor is extremely lively, so even though I have that class during the dip of my Circadian rhythm, I haven't fallen asleep yet--unlike last semester in physiology where staying awake was a lost cause).

Please don't laugh too much at me for the above....  I'm such a loser, lol.

    Biology doodles--

Pac-man! :D   Always think about phagocytosis (which btw is one of my favorite words!)
I color code things too...red was nonpolar there, purple polar.
I just drew it the way my professor drew it, lol, with a sunshine around it ~ energy!

    Scribble scribble

:) See, it's not so bad going to class?

Lab on the other hand...-_-...gotta work on a lab write up now!!

  • i like that drawing of the pig, hehh.

  • You would be a fun person to sit next to in class

  • SO cute. Some of my notes have a long wiggly line across the page from where I fell asleep and my arm dragged across the page hahahhaa

  • Maybe you should double up as an art major! I think doodling and word association/mnemonics are great ways to keep your mind focused during lecture and note taking. Also, when you have to go back and review for exams, it is nice to see doodles hehe to keep you from dreading studying =)

I hope you did well =]

  • I read this with pleasure and interest ,Melinda .
    - pleasure because I liked the little faces of doodles that remind you of your state of mind when you were studying those topics . This helps also to memorize .
    - interest, because I studied and taught this in the past ( I was in the teaching in biology ...and geology a long time ago !
This post is genuinely refreshing and rejuvenating

    In friendship

  • pretty awesome

  • Hahahahah........ <3

  • hahah yay for colorful notes!! and Dr. U w/ his "big ass ribosomes" :P

  • hahaha i like your notes. must be really interesting to read. so funny how you drew those shining rays from the electron

  • Glad to know you still have the child in you with the doodling. :P Happy Valentine's and Happy Chinese New Year!

  • @nyclegodesi24 -  lol, thanks! :) ! Do you doodle much in your philosophy classes? I only took one philosophy-ish class, and I think that's prob the class I doodled the MOST in, hehe. :)

@Roadlesstaken -  Hahaha, thanks :]...it could be pretty fun depending on the class XD. The only class I'm prob not fun to sit next to in is organic, because organic just makes me grouchy!! No, just kidding; organic because my professor writes and talks too fast for me to draw and write anything extraneous :[..but you should upload some of your doodles if you have time :] I liked the receipts that you uploaded, LOL.

@cal_islander - Lol, aww, thanks...But that's pretty much impossible -_-. You know, I survived high school with straight A's except in my ceramics class? That means I passed Calculus AP *online--> practically self taught* with an A, but not ceramics. Art is hard/they grade hard :[, and they're super time consuming. I think I'll just do it recreationally :]...but yeah, it def is fun to look back at doodles n_n!

    @s_h_a_sha &  @Vitamin_D -

    <3 <3 Thanks!! (:!

  • @whoosh90 - LOL!!!!!! Last time I had that professor, the same thing happened to me, since that class was at 835 AM! z_z! Haha, that's great though XD!!!!

  • @fangstar - Thanks!! (: Ah, hope the weather has been getting better, by the way!!! :[!!

  • @shortstuff3157 - Lol, one of the best things I've ever heard in class--ever!! :D ! :D ! :D ! Lol. Wish I got that recorded. -_- See youuuu!

  • @sunday_dreams - Haha, thanks (:. Electrons can be pretty exciting (har har, or excited -_-). Ah! I hope you've been well! No posts in a while..! <3! School keeping you busy?? (:?

  • I used to be a "good" (okay, maybe "not bad" haha) at art in elementary and junior high school, but when I reached high school, our school didn't have an art program and mainly focused on academics so a lot of my art skills deteriorated ):. Perhaps my favorite pastel art work (it actually won a prize :D ) was of ancient Carolinians (Pacific Islanders) sailing on the ocean and using the night stars to navigate. I worked really hard on it and it's probably the only art work I remember and wish I had with me lol. It's somewhere in my aunt's house in California, probably collecting dust :( (if she hasn't already lost it haha...that was like sixth grade :P ). But yay, stars! Ooooh imagine having to travel across the Pacific Ocean without a map, GPS, but only relying on beautiful stars (:. I think it should be a pre-req for sailors to do things old school and navigate using stars :) .

Nowadays, my art is...meh -_- haha.

You self taught yourself Calculus? You rock! All I remember about Calculus was how my book weighed a million pounds and I dropped it on my foot once...o_0.

Haha so the other day, my nephew came to me with a drawing he drew on scrap paper of Kobe Bryant :D and he said I could have it :D ...for five dollars lol. I got hustled by a third grader :P . I put the picture up on my closet (: and I still owe him five dollars haha 0_0.

Ceramics sounds like a lot of fun. I wish they had ceramic classes here (:

  • @phosphor_stars -

Ewwww 8.35 lectures?! It's hard enough going to 9am ones, I end up sleeping through a lot of them >_>;;.

  • @phosphor_stars -

HAHAHA funny funny. yea.. school has been really busy. Our counselors talked about internet privacy and college admissions so I got very paranoid and I want to wait it out until college results come out in April until I post again! :)

  • @sunday_dreams - Oh okay! Understandable! Better safe than anything else, with most things! And nowadays it seems like colleges/employers etc. all have a lot of ways to spy on us! D:! Meh!

  • @KuyaD - Thanks (:! & thanks for the rec.!

  • @whoosh90 - Omg the worst was when I had 8:35 labs! Never again!! It was so stressful, since if you over sleep for those you're doomed!!!! Never do that to yourself if possible!!! lol. I agree though, 9AM is still pretty early too -_-. z_z!

  • @phosphor_stars -

EWWWWWWWWW T___T, if I had 8:35 labs I'd have to get up super super early, and even worse, you can't sleep in labs hahaha XD but it's possible to get away with it in lectures XD. I'd make so many mistakes!! T___T;; can't function properly when sleepy. I had 12pm lectures today hahaha and still barely managed to wake myself up for them XD!!!

  • aw cute :D

i doodle so much in my english notebook because that class is so boring hahah

  • nerd pride!!!!
i actually enjoy your doodles hahah (im a pharm nerd...haha)

  • @rxglasshalffull -  Thanks!! :D YESSS, nerd pride indeed! Ahhh! You're a pharm kid! I might say that makes you one of the nerds of the nerds! Chemistry always seems to be kicking my butt, though biology related classes seem just fine. :3 Is that what the rx in your username is for? I saw the white coat and was wondering if that was also related XD!

  • @JustPlainMorgie - n_n! I wanna see your doodles! n_n...I used to draw a LOT in my chem class because it wasn't all that exciting either. Hate when the professors just read off of slides z_z...
